The incident occurred around 3am last night in an apartment building in the Jozef Simonslaan in Turnhout. An argument is thought to have erupted between 2 men. In the process, one stabbed the other several times. The victim died as a result.

'The police were called to the incident and when they arrived, they found a man who had been killed,' Kristof Aerts of the Antwerp public prosecutor's office said.

'They were then approached by a man wielding a knife. He apparently could not be calmed down. The police fired and a second man was also killed. The investigation is still ongoing, but it seems he was responsible for the stabbing.'

The street was closed to allow investigators to do their work. The prosecutor's office has appointed an examining judge. The justice department’s forensic lab is also at the scene.
