Shot fired at Schaarbeek nightclub, security guards overpower 2 suspects
It was around 5 o'clock on Saturday morning that a shot was fired in the nightclub. ‘The public prosecutor can confirm that there was a shooting following an argument at a bar on the Leuvensesteenweg,’ said Sarah Gillet of the Brussels public prosecutor's office.
No one was injured, but initially two ambulances and a rapid medical intervention team were sent to the scene. "That was precautionary. To my knowledge, nobody was injured," said mayor Nimal.
In all likelihood link to drug-trafficking ruled out
The nightclub security team was able to detain 2 suspects immediately. Arrived at the scene the police arrested the duo. ‘According to first statements, this was not a drug-related altercation,’ the prosecutor's spokeswoman said.
‘The investigation is ongoing, the lab and a ballistics expert attended the scene,’ Ms Gillet continued. ‘In the interest of the investigation, the prosecutor's office does not plan to comment further at this moment in time.’
No details are yet known about the type of weapon used.
