The curators of bankrupt interior design chain Casa started the clearance sale today. Sales are taking place in what used to be the chain’s 10 best-selling properties. Today and tomorrow, there are sales in Mechelen, Ostend and Bruges. Wednesday and Thursday it is the turn of Lier, Knokke and the Waasland Shopping in Sint-Niklaas. On Friday and Saturday, it’s the turn of Ghent, Elsene, Waterloo and Turnhout. This morning, there were already long queues of bargain hunters.
In early March, Casa Belgium filed for bankruptcy. The same thing happened in the Netherlands in early April. The 60 or so stores in Belgium, the distribution centre and the head office in Olen (Antwerp) have all since closed.
Casa is an originally Belgian chain that in 1988 ended up in the hands of the Dutch entrepreneurs of the Blokker Family. In April 2021, they sold the chain to Amsterdam-based investment group Globitas. The investor held 51 per cent of the shares, with the rest owned by Dutch entrepreneur Frank Pruijn.
