Flemish farming minister Jo Brouns (Christian democrat) is keen to promote carbon farming. This is the practice of storing carbon in the soil. Carbon farming has two main advantages: it is beneficial for agriculture, improving the quality of fields, but in addition it is good for the environment and that allows farmers to earn an extra euro. Mr Brouns intends to encourage carbon farming by providing a direct support of 25 million euros.
