A woman held in connection with the investigation into the suspicious death of the wife of a Goodyear top executive has been arrested.
The examining judge decided to arrest the woman, who is suspected of being involved in the death of the 61-year-old wife of the tyre manufacturer top executive for the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
She will now have to appear in court within five days. There a judge will have to decide whether she will remain in custody or not.
The case so far
On 17 March, the wife of the Goodyear executive arrived at her flat on the Roger Vandendriesschelaan in Sint-Pieters-Woluwe in Brussels around 8pm. At the door, she was met by an unknown individual wearing a face mask, who is thought to have threatened her to force entry into her flat.
Once inside, the woman was stabbed. Her husband who came home later found his wife's body. Emergency services arrived at the scene, but they could only establish her death. Several jewels and expensive watches, worth several tens of thousands of euros, also appeared to have disappeared.
On Friday, police raided an address in Steenokkerzeel (Flemish Brabant), where they were able arrest a suspect. According to daily Het Nieuwsblad, the suspect is the Goodyear executive's private secretary. It’s news that has been confirmed to the Belgian press agency Belga.
The Goodyear top executive himself is reportedly not being considered a suspect or co-defendant in the case for the time being. He is said to be ‘baffled by the developments’. His lawyer would not comment just yet.
