Brussels restaurant Maison Vincent dishes up menu served exactly 120 years ago

On 1 April, the Brussels restaurant Maison Vincent is celebrating its 120th anniversary and to mark this day, customers will be able to select dishes from exactly the same menu that was on offer right at the beginning of the last century. In addition to the special menu, a host of other events are being organised to celebrate the anniversary at one of the oldest restaurants in the Brussels downtown.

It was on 1 April 1905 that the Rôtisserie Vincent opened in what historically was the butcher's quarter of the centre of Brussels. Originally a butcher's shop, over the years the business grew into a restaurant. In 1912, Brussels architect Maurice Grimme had a go on the building and it was given its unique Art Deco style.  Today the wall tiles are protected as UNESCO cultural heritage.

Over the past 120 years, the restaurant has been visited by celebs from Brussels and beyond. It won’t surprise you to learn that singer Jacques Brel was a regular here, but American actress Sharon Stone, French singer-songwriter Charles Aznavour, Belgian actress Christiane Lenain, French actor Jean Yanne and French singer and actress Line Renaud all found their way to the Maison Vincent.

‘We are celebrating Maison Vincent's anniversary with a grand aperitif out on the street for customers, local residents and anyone who wants to join us,’ enthuses manager Ilhame Paloma Tiani Talbi. ‘People will be able to enjoy a beer, the barbecue, a brass band including historical characters and guided tours. After the aperitif, while seated at table, guests can enjoy our classic menu of three starters and three main courses.’

The birthday menu includes herring, eel, eggs, pork, roast beef and ice creams. Only the prices have changed since Rôtisserie Vincent opened.
