On 18 April 2024, Van Damme lost control of the wheel in Knokke-Heist. He collided with a parked car and a tree. The tree fell over and damaged a parked car.
There was extensive material damage. When the police arrived at the scene, the film star refused to be breathalysed. But both he and his son appeared to have had too much to drink.
Van Damme’s son Nicolas was convicted of similar offences in neighbouring Zeebrugge and Heist on 17 March.
