The Flemish Roads and Traffic Agency has announced that a stretch of the anticlockwise Brussels Orbital Motorway (R0) will be closed during the night of Friday 27 March. The closure of the road is necessary in order to allow work to be carried out for the installation of Roadside Variable Message Signs (RWMS). The signs will be installed at the point where the Terhulpensesteenweg crosses the motorway just north of the Groenendaal interchange in Hoeilaart (Flemish Brabant).
Section of the Brussels Orbital Motorway to be closed next Friday night to allow for the installation of Roadside Variable Message signs
The anticlockwise (northbound) carriageway of the motorway will be closed completely between the Groenendaal and Leonard interchanges. The road will be closed between midnight on Friday 27 and 5am on Saturday 27 March.
Motorists wishing to drive to, for example, Tervuren or Zaventem) will be diverted onto the clockwise Brussels Orbital via Haut-Ittre, Halle and Groot-Bijgaarden, making their journey dozens of kilometres longer.
Motorists wishing to join the anticlockwise Brussels Orbital from the E411 Namur – Brussels motorway will still be able to do so at the Leonard interchange.
Roadside Variable Message Sign (RVMS)
The Roadside Variable Message Signs (RVMS) that inform motorists about traffic conditions in real time will be installed while the motorway is closed. The signs display estimated travel times, warn about traffic jams, accidents or road works and help traffic run smoothly and more safely.
The use of a large crane is required to install the signs above the road. The Flemish Roads and Traffic Agency says that a lack of space on that section of the Brussels Orbital Motorway means that the whole of the anticlockwise carriageway at Groenendaal will have to be closed to allow the work to be carried out.
