A van became stuck inside the tunnel that runs under the Operaplein in the centre of Antwerp on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at the start of the morning rush hour and resulted in the closure of tunnel for traffic heading north. The roof of the van hit the tunnel’s sprinkler system, causing a water leak.

Wouter Bruyns of the Antwerp Local Police Service told VRT News that "Just after 7am a van that was too high entered the tunnel under the Operaplein”.
"As it was too high, it hit the ceiling of the tunnel and damaged the sprinkler system. As a result, water is leaking into the tunnel”.
"The tunnel is closed to northbound traffic. You can best take an alternative route via the Leien”.
