Red and green at the same time: traffic lights in Lier go haywire

Motorists that are planning to drive on the ring road that surrounds the town of Lier in Antwerp Province need to be on their guard. The traffic lights at the intersections of the ring road with Mechelsesteenweg and Antwerpsesteenweg have gone haywire, creating a dangerous situation for those using the road. Help is at hand though and Gilles Van Goethem of the Flemish Highways and Traffic Agency has told VRT News that contractors are currently working flat out to resolve the issue.

However, at Tuesday lunchtime the traffic lights had still not been fixed. “It will still be possible to drive along this stretch of the ring road, it will just take longer because of the work”, Mr Van Goethem says.

It is currently not clear when the traffic lights will be working normally again.
