Due to industrial action, only half of the Flemish public transport company De Lijn's bus and tram services will be running tomorrow, Wednesday 12 March. In a statement released on Monday evening De Lijn said that around 50% of services will be cancelled during Wednesday’s strike.
Strike action at De Lijn : only about half of bus and tram services in Flanders will run on Wednesday
In Antwerp and Ghent, just 30% of bus and tram services will be running. In the province of East Flanders as a whole 45% of services will run. Limburg is the province that will be the least affected by Wednesday’s strike. De Lijn says that 63% services will run there.
The trade unions that have called the strike are concerned about the changes to working hours that have come about as a result of a new rostering system that has been introduced by De Lijn.
The socialist trade union ACOD, the Christian trade union ACV and liberal trade union ACLVB say that irregular working hours are having a major impact on drivers' social and family lives. The unions add that in their view, this is something “that is often forgotten by political decision-makers”.
