A new record high was set for 8 March on Saturday. 19.7 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Met Office in Ukkel. The last record, 18.9 degrees, had been standing since 2014. It is the second day in a row that the day’s record was smashed.
The Met Office’s David Dehenauw reported the news on X at half past two on Saturday. At the time, 19.3 degrees had been recorded, but temperatures rose further to 19.7 degrees during the afternoon. The 20-degree mark was narrowly missed.
On Friday temperatures climbed to 18.3 degrees Celsius, breaking the day record set on 7 March 1991.
Getting colder and more changeable
It's not going to last.
Monday will still be sunny in most places. In the far south of the country, however, cloud cover will increase and there may be some light rain in the late afternoon and evening. It will be mild with highs still around 14 degrees in central parts.
Tuesday look forward to heavily overcast skies with some rain here and there. It gets considerably colder with 7 to 8 degrees at most in central parts.
Wednesday too will be chilly with cloudy periods and a few showers that could turn wintry in the Ardennes. Highs around 7 degrees.
