Another two lions from Ukraine have arrived at the Nature Aid Centre in Oudsbergen. They are Mark and Myron, two 2-year-old males that were kept as pets and confiscated by the Ukrainian authorities. Due to the war in Ukraine, they had to leave the country soonest.
This morning the two animals arrived in steel boxes from Poland. ‘After they were confiscated, they stayed in Kyiv for a while. But there they couldn't remain because of the war situation. They then spent some time in quarantine in Poland for a while,’ Frederik Thoelen of the Nature Aid Centre explained. ‘Back in November, we received an urgent request to take in the animals. And now they are finally here.’
Mark and Myron seem very calm in their new cage. They are already taking advantage of the fine Limburg weather and are lying in the sun. One of the two has a bit of a limp and has a small wound to the eye. ‘That's from rubbing in the steel box during transport. You won't see that any more in a week’s time,’ Mr Thoelen notes.
