After the dark winter months, the doors of Beersel Castle have reopened. It’s welcome news for the people of Beersel (Flemish Brabant) and the surrounding area, as the moated castle remains a popular attraction. ‘It’s great to be able to welcome people again,’ says organiser Priscilla. ‘They get a sense of how life used to be lived in the castle.’
Tourists, locals and the curious can again visit Beersel Castle.
The moated castle closes to the public during the winter months. ‘There's not all that much you can do here in the winter,’ says Priscilla (Tourism Beersel). ‘That's why it's so nice to welcome people once again, especially on a beautiful, sunny day!’
‘It is a magnificent, moated castle that has been preserved as it was built in the Middle Ages. There are 3 beautiful towers and a grand courtyard. You really get an idea of how knights and soldiers lived and how the castle was defended.’
The castle is important heritage in this municipality alderman for tourism Christel Hanssens explains. ‘During the opening weekend, we organised many extra activities to show residents the way to the castle. We are proud of the castle. It’s beautiful heritage with an equally beautiful history!’
