1,094 carat diamond Antwerp-bound: ‘Only Antwerp diamond workers possess the necessary tech’

Antwerp diamond workers are soon to set to work processing an exceptional diamond. The Seriti is a stone weighing a whopping 1,094 carats. It originated in a mine in Botswana and is the 6th largest diamond mined there of more than 1,000 carats. The Antwerp diamond company HB Antwerp will process the stone into cut diamonds.

This rough diamond is an exceptional find. Diamond workers in Antwerp are experts in processing large stones.  So it’s not surprising this gem is being brought to the northern port city: ‘Diamonds over 1,000 carats all come to Antwerp, because only here do we have the technology to process these diamonds,’ explains Margaux Donckier of diamond company HB Antwerp.

‘We will first analyse the diamond’s shape and see whether there are any impurities and how we can cut the stone into several pieces to make beautiful diamonds from it.’

The processed diamonds will earn HB Antwerp several million euros. These proceeds will benefit both the diamond company and the mine in Botswana where the diamond was mined.
