A resident of a care home in the West Flemish municipality of Dentergem has stabbed 3 fellow residents, killing 2 of them. The 3rd victim is currently in a critical condition in hospital. The mayor of Dentergem Koenraad Degroote (Flemish nationalist describes the stabbings as a “shocking event”.

Mayor Degroote went straight to the scene. He confirmed that the stabbings had resulted in loss of life. “The night shift of the residential care home saw what had happened and raised the alarm”. Two of the viticms died at the scene, the third, an elderly woman is still fighting for her life in hospital.
Mayor Degroote says that the person that carried the stabbings has been taken away by police. “The investigation is ongoing. A pathologist has gone to the scene. We are waiting now awaiting the arrival of an examining magistrate”.
The relatives of those killed or injured have been informed and have gone to the care home. “For the residential care home and the municipality, this is a shocking event. Our thoughts now go first and foremost to the victims and the families”, Mr Degroote said.
