Dutch supermarket giant Jumbo has plans to open ‘around 10 new stores’ in Belgium this year, the chain's 2024 annual report reveals. This would take the chain’s total number of stores south of the border towards 50 shops only six years after Jumbo opened its first Belgian store.
Jumbo opened four stores in Belgium last year, bringing its total to 37.
The supermarket chain is doing well in Belgium. Last year, Jumbo realised a turnover of 397 million euros in Belgium and - one year earlier than expected - made a ‘modest profit’.
Jumbo expects its sales to continue to grow in Belgium this year: ‘We are focusing on further improving shop processes, increasing in-store availability and exploring opportunities of adding even more local products to the range’ a Jumbo spokesperson says.
Jumbo opened its first store in Belgium, in Pelt (Limburg), at the end of 2019.
