The Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever (Flemish nationalist) has had a telephone conversation with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. The conversation took place earlier on Tuesday. The two leaders were to have talked a few days ago, but their conversation was postponed.
On Tuesday Mr De Wever and Mr Zelensky exchanged messages of support and thanks. The Belgian Prime Minister reiterated the stance he took at Monday’s summit meeting marking the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion.
President Zelensky invited Mr De Wever to Kyiv. His staff say that the Belgian PM will go to the Ukrainian capital in due course.
The Ukrainian President told Mr De Wever that he will probably come to Brussels next week for the European Council meeting on Thursday 6 March. Within this context a bilateral meeting will take place between Mr De Wever and Mr Zelensky.
