The leader of the Flemish liberal party (Open VLD) Eva De Bleeker has deleted one of her posts from the social media platform X. In the post she wrote that it is “just common sense” to ask civil servants in an e-mail what they have done during the past week and threaten them with dismissal if they fail to answer as Elon Musk has done in the US. After deleting the tweet, Ms De Bleeker wrote that she is not a fan of Mr Musk.
Flemish liberal leader deletes tweet about mail sent by Musk to US Federal civil servants
With a tweet related to the actions of Elon Musk, the Flemish liberal leader Eva De Bleeker caused a stir on Mr Musk’s social media platform X.
The liberal leader wrote that Elon Musk's email asking US federal civil servants to let him know what they have been doing at work during the past week is “simply common sense”.
After President Donald Trump urged him to be more aggressive in the execution of his duties last weekend, Mr Musk had an e-mail sent out asking federal government employees what they had done at work during the past week. Failure to reply would result in dismissal.
Commenting on an article in the daily ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’ about the email, Ms De Bleeker wrote that this is “common practice in the private sector. ‘It seems only natural to me that we would seek information on whether money raised from taxation is being spent productively.”
After the tweet elicited reactions, Ms De Bleeker deleted it and posted a new one explaining.
"The message was we need to strive for a much more efficient government and that includes analysing how the government workforce is performing, as is done in the private sector. Full stop."
She then went on to distance herself from Mr Musk. "For the record, not a fan of Musk. On the contrary."
