Shooters fired at least 25 shots at a night shop and snack bar in Fiennesstraat, in the vicinity of Clemenceau metro station, in the Brussels borough of Anderlecht on Saturday night. Nobody was injured and police have failed to detain any suspects. Later, a burnt-out car was found near Neerpede (Anderlecht). According to the prosecutor's office, the car may have been used in the shooting.
Snack bar and night shop near Clemenceau metro station come under fire
The shots were fired around 1am on Saturday night in Fiennesstraat, the prosecutor's office says. Police arrived at the scene and established a security cordon. Nobody was injured and no suspects have as yet been arrested, the Brussels prosecutor's office explains.
Police from the Brussels South police zone soon arrived to examine the scene. Twenty-five bullet casings were retrieved.
It is unclear whether this new shooting is related to last week's shootings. A burnt-out car was also recovered in Neerpede, an Anderlecht neighbourhood. The vehicle could be linked to the incident, the Brussels public prosecutor's office notes.
Images on social media show how the night shop’s fridge and window were hit. Footage also circulating shows a car being stopped by police. However, the occupants of that vehicle were reportedly allowed to continue on their journey. The public prosecutor's office has denied this is the car used by the attackers.
