‘The idea is to turn up in your favourite vehicle, come and look at the rest, and just take your time,’ sums up Patricia Raes, who is in charge of organising the event, via automobile museum Autoworld.

The theme of the 16th edition of the Love Bugs Parade is the 60th anniversary of the Belgian VW Club. The organisation, founded in 1965, ‘is a must for everybody who is passionate about cars and the Volkswagen brand’. Attending enthusiasts from Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Luxembourg were asked to recreate the era, ‘either by decorating their vehicle in the spirit of 1965, or by dressing like in the 60s’.

The Love Bugs Parade has been held since 2009. The parade's name is a nod to the Disney movie ‘The Love Bug’ that starred a quirky white Volkswagen Beetle named Herbie. According to Patricia Raes, the event is becoming ever more popular. About 50 vehicles took part in the first edition. Since then their number has increased every year.
