Fresh shooting near Sint-Guido metro station in Anderlecht: is drug turf war widening?

Persons unknown opened fire in Anderlecht last night, the Brussels public prosecutor's office says. Fortunately, nobody was injured in this, the fifth shooting in the area in recent days.

The incident happened at around 1.45 a.m. near the Sint-Guido metro station. One or more shooters fired several shots, but it is unclear whether anybody was targeted.

‘No one was injured,’ says prosecutor's spokesman Martin François. ‘The prosecutor’s office has appointed a ballistics expert, who arrived at the scene accompanied by members of the federal police's forensic team. An investigation into what exactly happened and that should identify the perpetrator or perpetrators is under way.’

Fifth shooting in Anderlecht in weeks

This is already the fifth shooting in the Brussels borough of Anderlecht in only 2 weeks. Earlier 3 shootings took place at the Clemenceau metro station, killing one person and leaving another injured. There was also a fatality in the notorious Peterbos neighbourhood. The victim was shot dead in the hall of one of the social housing towers.

The shootings, in recent days, are part of a drugs turf war between two rival gangs. On the one hand, there’s the criminal organisation operating out of Peterbos and, on the other, a gang trafficking drugs at the Aumale metro station in Anderlecht, where several shootings also took place in late 2024.

Whether last night's incident at Sint-Guido metro station is also related to drug trafficking is not yet clear.
