The unions that represent Belgian air traffic controllers have announce that they will be joining Thursday’s National Day of Action. No flights will be able to arrive at or depart from any Belgian airport from 6:45am until 10:45pm.
Air traffic controllers to join strike, no departures or arrivals at any Belgian airport on Thursday
In a statement the union’s spokesman Kurt Verwilligen said that "The unions at Skeyes are joining the national trade union front that has been formed to protest against the new coalition agreement. Consequently, Belgian air traffic control will not be providing a service for most of the day.
Skeyes manages air traffic above Belgium up to 7,500 metres. This means that no flights will be able to land or take off between 6:45am and 10:15pm. Exceptions will be made for medical or humanitarian flights.
As we reported on Tuesday departures from Zaventem and Charleroi airport had already been cancelled on Thursday and Charleroi airport was only going to accept incoming flights from Schengen Zone countries.
Now no flights will arrive at or leave from Charleroi, Zaventem or any other Belgian airport such as Ostend-Bruges or Liège.
