Wild boar runs wild in Leefdaal smashing patio door of family home

A family from the Flemish Brabant village of Leefdaal had something of a shock when a wild boar rammed the patio doors of their home. Wout Cockx told VRT News that he and his family were just 2 metres away from the animal when it smashed the glass of doors at the rear of their sitting room. "A wild boar can weigh up a couple of hundred kilos and so it can cause quite a bit of damage”, Mr Cockx said.

The glass in the doors is seriously damaged and will have to be replaced. “It was a wild boar that had been startled by something. We were standing just a couple of metres away, but fortunately we were not injured. It was really scary, for our dog too. He is afraid to go outside”.

After smashing the window the wild boar then ran into car. The vehicle was also damaged. Mr Cockx told VRT News that “A couple of hours later they were able to shoot and kill the animal. It was already injured when it rammed our patio doors and apparently a wild boar that is injured can be dangerous”.

Leefdaal is quite rural and there are quite a number of wild boar living there. However, this was the first time that Wout Cockx had seen one. "I had seen the tracks leave before but never a real wild board and what a first encounter it was!”.

He added that he hopes that his insurance company will resolve things quickly and that he plans to put a gate on the part of his garden fence between his and his neighbour’s garden when the wild boar got in.
