Two injured in Sint-Joost shooting

Shots were fired in the inner-city Brussels borough of Sint-Joost around 1.25am on Wednesday morning injuring two. The Brussels public prosecutor's office confirmed the news in the course of the day. A second violent incident occurred near the Clemenceau metro station in Anderlecht, another Brussels borough, later in the morning.  It’s not yet clear whether there is a link between the two incidents.

‘We can confirm that on 5 February 2025 around 1.25 am, police were called to the scene after several gunshots were fired in the Weidestraat in Sint-Joost,’ Willemien Baert of the prosecutor's office said. ‘Two people were injured. The perpetrators managed to escape.’

One of the two wounded was found at the scene, while the other attended a nearby police station with a gunshot wound to the leg. The prosecutor's office said: ‘Both injured were taken to hospital but are not in a critical condition. The scene was then cordoned off to preserve any evidence that could be useful to the investigation.’

‘After learning of the facts, the public prosecutor ordered an investigation and an intervention by the federal judicial police's forensic lab,’ the spokesperson continued. ‘A police doctor and a ballistics expert were appointed. This is a live investigation and, in the interest of the investigation, the public prosecutor's office does not intend to comment further on the case.’
