Police in Ghent will soon be able to say goodbye to their uncomfortable federal police pants that are being replaced by more comfortable police trousers sourced in West Flanders. For many months now Ghent police officers have been feeling uncomfortable due to the police pants the City of Ghent purchased from the federal police. Now the Ghent city fathers have decided to join Antwerp in ordering the trousers of the Ghent police uniform in nearby West Flanders.
It appears the trousers Ghent bought from the federal police are not only uncomfortable for Ghent police buttocks, but the pants are not suited to the modern needs of the police either. The new West Flemish pants will cost Ghent city coffers up to 1 million euros over next 3 years.
Antwerp police already switched to the new modern model in 2023. Ghent police, too, have now tested the new pants and are eager to order them too. ‘These are all-season trousers that have more stretch, extra pockets and the option of wearing knee pads’ the force notes.
Ghent is now earmarking 1 million euros for new trousers over the next three years. The cash will be used to replace old, worn-out specimens. If a success other local police zones and even the federal police may one day switch to the new trousers.
