The AVRO-Netflix series is about the crucial first hour after an incident and follows main character Mardik Sardagh, played by Nasrdin Dchar. After a series of attacks, detective Sardagh starts looking for suspects and an old childhood friend enters the picture. ‘Het Gouden Uur’ premiered in 2022 in the Netherlands and has been available on streaming platform Netflix since 2023.

In Season 2 the investigation takes Mardik Sardagh and his colleagues across Europe.  A European summit in Brussels is the final destination. In the coming weeks, hundreds of actors and extras will take to the streets of Brussels for the filming of the new series. Filming will take place in the Wetstraat, Belgium’s political nerve centre, and in and around the Jubel Park. How much of the city will feature on screen still remains to be seen.

400 extras needed

Filming is in full swing and will continue until the end of January. Extras are still being sought for the mass scenes. All enthusiasts aged between 20 and 70 are eligible and can apply to the Belgian casting agency Castingteam.

The agency says there are no specific requirements to participate, ‘except that we are looking for reliable people with experience. As an extra you don't earn much, so sometimes people think nothing of cancelling an assignment, but that can cause production problems.’ In total, some 400 roles for extras need to be filled.  Roles to be played range from simple bystanders to police officers, inspectors and journalists.

For the filming from 20 to 23 January, the casting agency is still looking for people to portray larger than life, ‘tough’ characters. ‘We are especially experiencing a shortage of fit, large, broad men and women. They will have to play secret agents, ‘special forces’ and bodyguards,’ casting director David Van Ammel told Brussels media outlet BRUZZ. People who feel they foot the bill can apply online .

The second season of ‘Het Gouden Uur’, featuring Brussels, is expected to air in late 2025 or early 2026.
