Police in the Antwerp town of Mechelen stopped a Dutch driver, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol last weekend. The man claimed he tested positive for cocaine because he had kissed women who use coke. ‘We have never been treated to this explanation before and technically it is impossible,’ a spokesman for the local police told VRT.
Driver tests positive for cocaine ‘because he kissed women who snorted’
Mechelen police stopped the 38-year-old Dutchman with 2 per mill blood alcohol content last weekend. The man also tested positive for the drug cocaine. However, he vehemently denied using drugs. Indeed, he had an original explanation for the cocaine in his body.
‘The man claimed that at the disco he had kissed women who had snorted coke,’ explains officer Dirk Van de Sande. ‘We have never heard that excuse before. Technically, it is also impossible to test positive for cocaine that way.’ The man also added in his statement that he ‘only uses alcohol and Viagra’.
Pay 2,500 euros fine or car is impounded
The driver was stopped as part of drink-drive checks near science and technology centre Technopolis on Saturday night. The Dutchman could not produce a valid driving licence, and the necessary vehicle documents were also missing.
As the man does not live in Belgium, he had to pay two €1,260 fines, one for drug use and a second for being over the alcohol limit, on the spot. When he refused to pay, police immobilised his car. If the imaginative coke user fails to pay within 96 hours, his vehicle will be impounded.
