Some 680 maps from the old Mercator Museum are now being stored in a digital archive. ‘It’s an important step for the transmission of history’ says curator Ward Bohé. The Mercator Museum (website in Dutch )in the East Flemish town of Sint-Niklaas is currently closed and will be moving to a new location this year. The museum is moving to the Zwijgershoek, the main building of the city’s municipal museum SteM (website in Dutch ). The reopening is planned in June 2025.
