Flemish government donates 200,000 euro to the Red Cross for Ukraine

The Flemish government has donated 200,000 euro to the Flemish Red Cross for humanitarian aid projects in Ukraine. The announcement that the Flemish government is donating the cash was made by the Flemish Prime Minister Matthias Diependaele (Nationalist) in a statement made at the weekend. The funds will be used for awareness-raising and training events on the risks associated with unexploded ordnance such as mines.

Mr Diependaele said that “This financial support can help them share their expertise on the ground with residents close to the frontline to ensure that unexploded ordnance does not cause further casualties”.

In areas where there has been recent fighting, unexploded ordnance continues to pose a threat to the local population and aid workers. By raising awareness and providing training, the aim is to teach people how to deal with the danger posed by unexploded shells safely.

The Flemish Red Cross is working with the German Red Cross and the Ukrainian Red Cross on this project.
