A curfew for minors under the age of 16 that will be in force from 7pm on New Year’s Eve in the Kuregem district of the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht is illegal. That’s according to the Auditor of the Council of State. On Monday morning the Council of State dealt with a complaint made by a family that lives in Kuregem against the curfew measure that has been imposed by the Mayor of Anderlecht. Fabrice Cumps (Francophone socialist).
Council of State Auditor says that curfew for minors in Anderlecht’s Kuregem district is illegal. However, it can’t be suspended

Although the measure is deemed to be illegal, the Council of State won’t be demanding its suspension as the family that brought the case is not seriously harmed by the curfew.
The Council of State’s Auditor says that the Mayor of Anderlecht’s decision to ban young people under the age of 16 from venturing onto the streets alone in the Kuregem area on New Year's Eve is illegal as it is in breach of the Children's Rights Convention.
However, the Auditor adds that the measure cannot be suspended as the family that filed a suspension request against the curfew is not suffering sufficiently serious harm to justify an urgent suspension. The Council of State will issue a full ruling later today (30 December).
