Some 3,000 runners took part in the 13th edition of the Manneken-Pis Corrida in Brussels last night. Participants in this charity run can choose between distances of 4 or 8 kilometres. The run takes participants past many of the sights of Brussels including the Queen's Gallery and, of course, Manneken Pis himself.
Yesterday evening, some 3,000 sports enthusiasts descended on the Brussels downtown for the Manneken-Pis Corrida. The annual end-of-year run was organised for the 13th time this year. Again this year it was a completely sold-out event.
The route of the Manneken-Pis Corrida takes runners past many of the Brussels sights, the Martelarenplein, the Queen’s Gallery, the Nieuwstraat and the Gothic market square. Manneken Pis too is on the route.
‘Great atmosphere’
‘It was pretty cold to start off with, but you immediately warm up when you are running. I've been taking part for more than 7 years because it's a fantastic route. There is a great atmosphere with lots of people providing support along the way. The corrida is highly recommended,’ says participant Marc-Paul Janssens.
The Corrida always has a very Christmassy theme. Runners are asked to wear Santa hats, which only adds to the atmosphere. Manneken Pis is also kitted out in sportswear for the occasion.
