A team from Antwerp police's local mobile unit was patrolling the Kiel Park area in plain clothes yesterday when they made their discovery. Two youngsters had agreed to meet up with the father and son following a contact on social media. Father and son arrived at the agreed spot carrying a large plastic bag. It contained a large quantity of fireworks.
Father and son were arrested and a search conducted at their home led to the discovery of several more boxes of fireworks that were all seized.
The father and his 15-year-old son were briefly arrested but have since been released. They risk a hefty fine for antisocial behaviour and possibly more on account of their illegal dealings.
