The discount voucher for buying or renting energy-efficient appliances already existed for people entitled to the social tariff for gas and electricity, but the Flemish government is now updating its conditions. The previous energy minister Zuhal Demir (Nationalist N-VA) announced the decision back in May.
From January, whether you are entitled to the grant will depend on your income. As a result, according to Depraetere's office, 1 in 3 Flemish families will be eligible for the rebate. In total over a million Flemish households will be entitled. Last year only 20,312 efficient energy discount vouchers were handed out.
‘We’ve noticed that people on low wages have a lot of trouble making such investments,’ says Flemish energy minister Melissa Depraetere. ‘These are appliances that people really do need. The voucher allows them to buy a better and more energy-efficient appliance. That is good for their wallet and their purchasing power, but also for the climate.’

Applicants need to meet conditions with regard to their income. ‘We are going to make sure that this voucher reaches the right people,’ says Depraetere.
You can apply for the discount voucher from 2 January at www.vlaanderen.be/mijnkortingsbon . After approval, grid operator Fluvius will send you the voucher by email or post. You can receive a maximum of 1 voucher every 2 years per eligible household type of appliance.
