Max Colombie, the singer of band Oscar and the Wolf, was verbally abused and threatened yesterday after performing at VRT fundraiser the ‘Warmest Week’ in Bruges. The singer spoke of the incident on the band's Instagram account. As he was about to leave, a group of people walked past the backstage area fence. One person shouted abuse and became aggressive. ‘He wanted to break through the fence and attack me,’ Colombie explained.

It was a gig with a particularly sour aftertaste. Last night, after his performance at the ‘Warmest Week’ in Bruges, Max Colombie became the victim of homophobic abuse. ‘I don't want to end the evening on a bad note, but I have to say this,’ the singer begins his story.

Colombie describes how he was getting ready to leave, when suddenly a group of people walked by. One of them shouted ‘dirty faggot, I'm coming to kill you’. ‘He became so aggressive and wanted to open the gate to attack me.’

Luckily Colombie managed to jump into his car and drive off before worse could happen. ‘But I was terrified’ he posted.

A message from Max Colombie.

Bruges police say they have not yet received a complaint, but explicitly advise Colombie to file one. According to the police, there are no images of the incident. ‘We can open an investigation, but without his witness statement it is more difficult to find out exactly what happened and who the perpetrators are,’ the police say.
