With the festive season rapidly approaching, the Brussels Capital Region is banning the use of all fireworks, including flares and firecrackers. The ban will apply until March 3, 2025.
The ban covers the possession, transport, use, display and sale of fireworks (including all preparations to light them) throughout the territory of the Brussels Capital Region.
Fireworks including flares, Roman candles, firecrackers, Bengals, firework fountains and other types of fireworks may be confiscated. Sound cannons and carbide shooting, the practice of exploding a milk churn, are also banned. The ban will be enforced both in public areas and on private property.
Although the sale of fireworks is authorised by the federal authorities, the Brussels region has the powers to ban or restrict their use on its territory. The regulations do not apply to professionals who hold the necessary licences.
