Prosecutor’s office issues wanted notice with photography of Antwerp Colruyt attacker
On Thursday 28 November, at 7.43pm, a masked man arrived at a Colruyt store on the Gentplaats on an electric scooter. It was just berfore 8pm, the supermarket was still open. The man remained outside while lighting 2 firebombs. He then went inside and threw the 2 firebombs towards the checkout. Customers and shop staff were standing there at the time. The man then lit a 3rd firebomb and threw it into the shop before he fled.
“The footage is quite astounding. The man cooly throws the home-made firebombs into the supermarket”, Kristof Aerts of the Antwerp prosecutor’s office told VRT News. The bombs were fireworks with a bottle of petrol attached to them. “With the same degree of cold-bloodedness, the suspect then left aboard his electric scooter. Where he headed is still unclear". There are currently no indications that there is a link to the drug scene.
The suspect is of normal build and has dark eyes and dark eyebrows. When he carried out the attack, he was wearing a dark Under Armour tracksuit and and white stripped training shoes. His was wearing a black hat and his face was covered by a scarf or balaclava. He drove an electric scooter that was curved at the front.
Police are seeking witnesses that saw the man that evening and know in which direction he headed when he fled. The police are also asking anyone that has footage of the incident to come forward. This could be CCTV footage, dashcam footage or footage shot by a mobile phone.
