The truck caught fire at the BD Media site on the Klein-Mechelen Industrial Estate in Bornem this morning. The cause of the fire is still unknown. Extinguishing the fire is not an easy task as the truck is loaded with batteries. Once apparently extinguished the batteries could reignite again due to internal heat build-up.

Police are urging local residents and businesses in the area to keep windows and doors closed, as the smoke could pose a health risk. People in the area have also received a BE-Alert message.

A BD Media employee and the driver of the truck have been taken to hospital for medical check-up.
