5.5-year prison sentence for man that put lethal dose of LSD into his girlfriend’s wine
On 16 December 2023 the 47-year-old man put a large quantity of LSD into a glass of white wine that his girlfriend was going to drink. A week earlier he had been released from prison after having served a sentence for violence against his partner. To celebrate his release, man invited his girlfriend for a drink.
He mixed a large quantity of LSD into her drink, a glass of white wine. He put a smaller amount of LSD into his own drink, a glass of water. The woman asked if what he had put into her drink was speed to which he replied that she would see pink elephants.
Once the woman had drunk the wine she collapsed and started foaming at the mouth. At his trial the man said that he had attempted to wake her, but his efforts were in vein. After this he visited a night shop and a chip shop in Herentals. It was at the chip shop that he was apprehended by police. Police then found the body of the woman at her flat.
Blood tests showed that she had 18 times more LSD in her blood than her boyfriend. Lawyers representing the dead woman’s daughter had wanted the accused to be tried for murder by poising. However, the judge rejected this. Nevertheless, the court did rule that there was a link between her death and her having taken LSD.
