The Brussels public transport has announced that it will increase the price of its standard tariff season tickets and single and multi-journey tickets by an average of 4.7% from February next year. After a price-freeze that lasted almost a decade, the outgoing Brussels regional government signed a new management agreement with MIVB that allowed the public transport company to increase its fares inline with inflation. Next February’s price increase comes on top of a price increase earlier this year.

From February the price of an annual season ticket will to use MIVB’s bus, tram and metro services will increase from 520 euro to 550 euro. The price of a monthly season ticket will increase from 52 euro to 55 euro. The price of a single journey ticket bought in advance, for example from a ticket vending machine, will increase by 10 cent to 2.30 euro.

The price of special tariff season tickets will remain unchanged. These include the pensioners’ season ticket and season tickets for children aged between 12 and 18, young people aged between 18 and 24 and students in full-time education.
