In 2008 Wilhelmus Beckmann killed his girlfriend in Merksplas (Antwerp Province) and then tried to stage a violent robbery. He set the villa where he and his girlfriend lived on fire in an effort to cover up the gunshot wounds on his dead girlfriend’s body.

He was arrested soon after the murder but was released awaiting his trial. However, he absconded and is still on the run. At his trial in January this year he was sentenced in his absence to 29 years in prison. Wilhelmus Beckmann was placed on the Federal Police most wanted list at the request of the Antwerp prosecutor’s office.
