Metro traffic in Brussels was severely disrupted on Thursday morning after a body was found in a tunnel between the Naamsepoort and Louisa stations. Federal police are investigating the death and are hoping to establish the exact circumstances in which it happened.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be established. Federal police have launched an investigation, spokeswoman Jana Verdegem says.
The Brussels transport company MIVB speaks of major disruption to metro services on lines 2 and 6 between Elisabeth and Hallepoort. Stations remained closed after 6am.
It was unclear how long the disruption would last. The MIVB website speaks of disruption due to an incident involving a member of the public and technical issues.
Until metro traffic is restored, passengers are advised to use alternative means of transport, including buses and trams. Metros lines 1 and 5 are running.
