Christophe and Lucianna, the two Belgian diving instructors who survived the sinking of the Egyptian tourist boat Sea Story, have spoken with the media for the first time. “We don’t understand it” they told newsmen.
The Belgians from Namur were posted as missing after the vessel sank in heavy weather in the Red Sea early on Monday morning. They survived in an air bubble in the ship’s hull where they remained for 35 hours.
“We don’t understand how we ended up in the air bubble” Christophe says. “Water was coming in from all sides. We were able to film it. We are in the ship’s hull. I think our life jackets took us there. We couldn’t see a thing under water”.
Police questioned the Belgians as part of the investigation into the sinking. Christophe says they are receiving a lot of help and everybody is taking good care of them: “The most important thing is that we can soon go home. We want to see our loved ones”.
So far 4 bodies have been recovered. Seven people are still missing.
