The record for the highest temperature on 24 November has been broken. The Met Office recorded a temperature of 17.5 degrees Celsius in Ukkel (Brussels) yesterday afternoon. ‘The day record dated back to 2003 and stood at 15.8 degrees,’ says weather forecaster Sabine Hagedoren. 17.5 degrees Celsius is the highest temperature ever recorded on 24 November in Belgium.
After the cold snap of the past few days, Sunday was very mild with sunny spells and cloudier periods.
‘Subtropical wind from the south is reaching us in rapid succession,’ the weather forecaster explained. ‘The wind has little time to cool down and therefore temperatures can rise sharply to new record highs.’
The wind is a bit of a killjoy for people enjoying the warm conditions. There is a strong wind practically everywhere. On the coast gusts of up to 60 to 75 km per hour were recorded. In the highlands of the Ardennes gusts of up to 80 km/h were not out of the question, the Met Office noted.
