The rain resulted in a difficult drive into work for many on Tuesday morning. A one point there were jams totalling 490km on motorways and trunk roads. Thankfully there were few accidents.

The high has resulted in a lot of leaves having fallen from the trees. Although these are cleared from small streets, they remain on the road surfaces and at the side of highways and motorways.

Winter showers from Tuesday evening

Towards the end of the day the showers will turn wintery on high ground in the Ardennes. Here in Flanders the showers could turn wintery during the course of the night. On the highest ground in the Ardennes a modest covering of snow isn’t being ruled out. The VRT’s traffic expert Hajo Beeckman advises people in Flanders to keep their eyes on the weather forecast.

The forecast for Wednesday is for brighter weather. However, there could be some wintery showers. It will become considerably colder with temperatures reaching no higher than 4°C.
