26-year-old West Fleming dies in Panama in suspicious circumstances

A 26-year-old man from Knokke-Heist (West Flanders) died unexpectedly while on holiday in Panama last weekend. He was found dead in his hotel bed. Given his young age, local police are assuming his death is suspicious. An autopsy will now be performed first, after which his body will be transferred to Belgium.

The 26-year-old businessman was on holiday in Panama with his brother and friends. After a night out, he was found dead in his hotel bed the next day his father and brother have confirmed.

‘My best friend, big brother or as he was known to many Uncle Trio or the Chairman, was found dead in his hotel bed in the hotel where we were staying in Panama, on Saturday morning, after a night out.’

The cause of death is not yet known. ‘Given his youthful age and good physical condition, the authorities are treating this as a suspicious death,’ the family says. ‘An autopsy will take place on Monday and Tuesday. Normally, Maxim will then be repatriated to Belgium during the week. Thanks again to everyone for their support.’

The Belgian foreign office has also confirmed the death. Officials are following up the case via the local embassy.
