Woman meets violent death in Zwijndrecht

The woman had suffered a particularly violent death.  An investigating judge is now looking into the murder.  "Just after 7 am this morning, local police received an emergency call about a woman with life-threatening injuries lying on the driveway of a house on the Jacomo Antonio Carennalaan in Zwijndrecht," says Kristof Aerts of the Antwerp public prosecutor's office.

"The police immediately attended the scene.  The injuries were so serious that the woman died at the scene. A judicial investigation is underway. A police doctor and forensic technicians are at the site. These are very violent acts.  An investigating judge is looking into the murder.  The woman had a serious head wound."

"It involves a 51-year-old woman, mother of 3 children. She has never reported being the victim of stalking in the past.  She was found on her own driveway."

"The police were alerted by local residents who had heard shouting and screaming." Local residents say they saw a person with a hood running away, but the public prosecutor's office cannot yet confirm this.

"We cannot yet say anything about a possible suspect. It is still too early for that," the public prosecutor's office says.

Quiet residential area shocked

"This is a fairly quiet residential area. You don't usually see all that many people on the streets here, unless people are walking their dog," says a local resident. "I am a member of the local neighborhood network. We do receive warnings about burglaries, but murder, no, you don't expect that in this neighborhood."

Another local resident hopes that the police will soon find a perpetrator. "I often go for a walk with my dog, ​​and I now don't feel that safe."

Residents of the Zwijndrecht postal district 2070 are also currently being asked to leave their garbage bins where they are. Investigators may be looking for a murder weapon.
