Fleming Wim backed a winner, voted Trump in Texas

Fleming Wim Van den Bulck lives in Texas and voted Trump: ‘Once I called him “half-crazy”, but mostly I voted against current policies’ he tells VRT News as Donald J. Trump claims victory in the US presidential election.

Wim Van den Bulck lives in the United States and cast his vote for Republican Donald J. Trump in the presidential election. He did so mainly because he wanted to vote against the policies of Democratic president Joe Biden and vice president and presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Still, he also has his doubts about the Republican‘s next term in office.

Wim lives in the US state of Texas, which clearly colours Republican red on the electoral map and he too voted for the Republicans. Although in his own words, that was an anti-vote: not a vote for Trump, but mainly a vote against Harris. ‘I think a lot of people mainly voted against existing policy,’ he says.

Yet Wim also looks to the future with some nervousness. Speaking before the final result he said: ‘If Trump becomes president again, we will still be anxious to see what he will do. He has already made some megalomaniacal statements, and I have even called him a ‘half lunatic’. Still, I voted for him.’

Life is more expensive, illegal immigration is a concern

According to Wim, his life has certainly not improved in the last four years, that is, under Biden and Harris. ‘When I look at food prices, petrol, plane tickets, insurance, taxes.... Everything has really skyrocketed.’

‘So, I couldn't say, ‘Ms Harris, I'm going to give you four more years to carry on.’ She did say she would restore everything on day 1, but then I thought: day 1 was 1,400 days ago. I obviously looked at earnings and expenditure in our household, and I just notice that everything has become much more expensive.’

Wim hopes that that trend can be reversed under Trump. That was more important to him than the reservations he has about the Republican candidate. ‘Harris has always said that Biden's economics are working, but that is clearly not the case. I think the average American has lost out very badly and she is being judged on that. It was better under Trump.’

‘The hope is that Trump will roll back some things or implement policies that make life better for us,’ he continues. ‘And then, what's a particular issue here in the state of Texas, and what the government has been judged on: illegal immigration. That was halted under Trump and is now running rampant.’
