Weather warning for dense fog till 11 AM in large parts of Flanders

The Met Office has declared a code yellow weather warning for fog in Flanders (except in Limburg Province). Visibility may be limited to less than 200 metres in some places. Warnings are also issued for dense fog in the Netherlands.

Tuesday again starts with dense fog in many places. That fog could cause problems on the roads until 11am. ‘Keep sufficient distance and adjust your speed,’ is the Met Office advice to drivers.

After the morning fog disappears, the sun will make an appearance in our climes later in the day. Out west, cloud cover will be more persistent. Expect highs around 14 degrees today with a slight breeze.

When should you turn on your fog lights and when not?

‘Rear fog lights are compulsory, and you should use them when you cannot see further than 100 metres in front of you,’ VRT traffic expert Hajo Beeckman explains. ‘It is the same with snow and with heavy rain.’

When the fog has lifted, you should switch off your fog lights, just like in traffic jams, because otherwise you simply blind other road users. ‘If you forget to turn off your rear fog lights, you are committing a violation of the traffic code and can get a hefty fine!’ warns Hajo Beeckman.
