Noorderkempen police had officers keeping a watchful eye at the Hoogstraten Oktoberfest. When they saw over a score of revellers climb into a tractor trailer as festivities drew to a close, they alerted colleagues from the motorbike division.
The tractor and trailer were stopped, and 44 revellers kitted out in Halloween garb and the traditional leather breeches customary at such German feasts tumbled out. Police say it was particularly dangerous, because nobody was wearing a seatbelt. Moreover, travel like this is illegal and all the revellers were fined. The tractor turned out to be on its way to Poppel. ‘That is half an hour's drive by tractor' said one officer. All the passengers quickly understood that it was very dangerous”.
The driver did not possess the appropriate driving licence to drive a tractor with a trailer. He too should expect a fine.’
Unfortunately, no photographs of the incident are available.
